Healthy Nutrition Project
Nourishing Children. Supporting Families. Strengthening Communities.
Good nutrition is an essential part of early childhood development. Our Healthy Nutrition Project connects nutrition education, affordable food options and childcare to help young children receive the nourishment they need during the critical early years.
The project grew from our community engagement with caregivers and parents, where conversations around breastfeeding, complementary feeding and children's nutrition revealed significant information gaps and practical challenges faced by families.
What we do
Our nutrition work focuses on:
1. Promoting practical knowledge about healthy infant and young-child nutrition.
2. Supporting caregivers and parents with accessible nutrition information.
3. Promoting affordable, locally produced grain-based foods for children from the appropriate complementary-feeding age.
4. Linking nutrition with childcare and early childhood development.
5. Working with childcare providers to make healthy nutrition part of everyday care.
6. Exploring sustainable community-based production and distribution models.
Our programme has included the development and distribution of affordable whole-grain cereals as part of our broader effort to improve access to nutritious foods for young children aged 6 months and above.
Nutrition beyond food
We believe nutrition is not simply about what a child eats. It is connected to responsive caregiving, health, hygiene, early stimulation and the overall environment in which a child grows.
That is why our nutrition activities are integrated with our wider childcare and community development work.
During community activities, parents and caregivers have raised concerns about breastfeeding, breastmilk storage in childcare settings and complementary feeding. These experiences helped shape the expansion of our nutrition education and food-access activities.
Creating sustainable solutions
We are exploring community-driven models that can make nutritious foods more accessible while also creating opportunities for childcare providers and local networks.
Our long-term goal is to build a model in which nutrition, childcare, livelihoods and child development reinforce one another.
